Day 5 The everything went wrong day

Last night we went to Les Mis. It was incredible. I have seen it 3 times now, and this was by far the most incredible performance I have ever seen. I cried every time it was possible, and Steve said he teared up several times. It was amazing. Every single person in the show was top notch. Like Steve said,"this is Broadway". The chorus was amazing, the actors were amazing it was worth every penny we spent. We only bought middle of the price range and we were 6 rows back and in the middle. You couldn't have gotten better seats.

Today was one of those if anything could go wrong it does. This morning very early, there was a huge thunderstorm, with a big rainstorm. It flooded the downtown going trains on the subway. That meant you couldn't go downtown unless you walked (which would be 100 blocks for us) , take the bus, or a taxi. Since all the working people ride the subway, the buses were packed and weren't even stopping. The taxi's were packed and weren't stopping. We tried for about 2 1/2 hours to get downtown, and finally gave up. We also tried to go to the metropolitan museum of art, but it was half closed because there weren't enough people able to get to work to guard the art rooms. So everything we tried failed. When we finally quit trying, oh by the way it was 92 degrees with high humidity, we ate at McDonald's, and walked home. The sad thing was we had an appointment to go to the top of the Statue of Liberty, so now we don't know if we will be able to do that. We will still be able to go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

When we got home, I went to the store to get some dinner and paper products. I don't know why I was soooo slow to buy paper plates and etc. I will not make that mistake again. I am also buying things I can make in the microwave in their dish. Tonight we had Barbecued brisket, corn on the cob,(that I cooked in a ziploc bag, it was delicious) and a salad.

The rest of the afternoon was taking naps and talking. We analyzed our personalities and vacations. We aren't going to Niagara Falls, and Palmyra after all. I am glad. It is a 7 hour drive, and we don't do well in these big cities. Not to mention finding a place to rent a car and etc., etc. and etc. We also thought about our favorite day so far (yesterday) and realized that we need more structure with audio tours, then take a rest in the afternoon, and go back out at night. Or go later in the afternoon, and eat dinner out. Do we sound old or what!!!!!? Oh well, it is what it is. We will be more relaxed this way.

I am afraid to say I have finally figured out the subway, because when I do, I realize I don't. But I think I really do this time. Will know for sure tomorrow. Thanks for the tips Lizzie. I was still going to call you and still might.

Emily I love your comments!

Well, we are going to try to go to the Statue of Liberty tomorrow again.

Love you all!

Bummer Mom. I hope it goes better for you. New York really is fun. I promise. I do have to admit though....a LOT of the reason I love it is for the shopping....so I hope you get to do some of that while you are there. And I know Dad is afraid to let you out alone, but Rebecca and I did it separately by ourselves. I had to get on the subway downtown, go up to midtown, catch another subway across the water to a not wonderful neighborhood, walk to the bus stop, get on the bus, go to my hotel and then get a shuttle to the airport. Rebecca did the same thing for a day and a half alone...and she's not great with directions. So you would be FINE. I am so jealous that you saw les mis. I am glad you loved it so much. Maybe someday I will see it, dragging shad along with me. =) I'm glad you have 2 weeks, since the weather hasn't been great. I am so glad you are blogging your trip. I feel like I am there in your apt at night and you tell me about your day. It's great. I look forward to it everyday. I love you both.

WELL, I can't help but laugh when you make a complaint about your trip- because I'm just thinking- "you're vacationing like a queen and king over there!" But I know how frusterating things are when they don't go as planned. Especially on a vacation, when you can't just go there everyday. The pictures are so awesome. I can't wait to go there some day. So did you go inside of the fashion place? and I love the story about the women who had to be escorted so they bought their own strip. That is really funny. Just shows how vain females are. Only a woman would do that. Ha- I love you-

Oh it all sounds so fun! I've been camping so I've just now read all your stuff. You guys are so cute. I am so jealous of les misrable. And Dad, love the shorts, but I think they'd look even better without the suspenders. Maybe a belt? Oh it all sounds so cool. The empire state building reminded me of Sleepless in Seattle. I'm glad you're figuring things out, like how you like to travel and how to use the subway. I'm a baby when it comes to traveling to. I am easily put out. I need to relax inbetween things. Well, I love you both, I'm glad you're having fun! BYE!
